2024 was obviously overloading for me, but rich in experiences and perspectives. Four of which, I’d like to share with you here, after my long hiatus, due to some technical calibration! Last year, I seemed to take on more than I could “chew”, but manage to make them through. Besides my regular mission with SFA and CSFF, I took over the challenges to direct SEAVFC-Cambodia and manage KE‘s SME Awards. Instead of summarizing my activities in each “venture”, let’s dive into those annual perspectives.

1- Delegation Matters, When Overwhelmed
If you’re a fan of the 4Ds’ matrix by Stephen Covey, you recall that D standing for “Delegation“. When do you apply that practice? When you’re overcharged, with many important tasks. But trust me, even among those so-called important tasks, you can still prioritize them, based on your order of values. For some, “family” runs first. For others, “occupation” may matter more. For me, “mission” prevails in my genes. Still, an obvious setback was to recruit enough people to handle other tasks I couldn’t handle myself.

2- Quality over Quantity
I have learned this lesson (with some enhancement) from a crew at SFA. Despite my warning about slowing down on their priority, a few members lagged behind the deadlines of some projects they cared about. Over the years, if you’d like to start up a film career right, my advice would be to to make a short film or two per year. Three would clog your mind and time while you might be distracted with other regular commitments.

3- Move Where You Grow Better
If you follow what I have done at SFO, we keep moving our working space in the last few years. Very few would know about the financial constraints we were facing. Yet, we ended up landing on the best deal with Box Media, now hosting all our activities, on a pro bono basis. The idea is to keep looking until you find better options matching your circumstances. Forcing yourself to accept what exceeds your situations might harm your (financial) future!

4- Free Will for Destiny
Although I prefer not revealing much about my personal relationship, my decision to stay firm will buy me some time to rebuild what I have lost. This doesn’t mean to claim my past, but rather looks to fill the gaps while I still have to fix what is missing in our lives. Of course, time will tell as not everything is under my/our “solo” control! Anyhow, if challenged by an external factor, make sure you stick to your value and make it (ethically and responsibly) right.

I’d say 2024 was another year to humble down my life journey, help balance up my commitments, and clear up what I need to do next or from this (new) year onwards. 🙂 As I keep traveling as my hobby, check back here for another post on my trip to a new country!
